Which is More Durable, Full Dull Polyester Flame Retardant Yarn or Flame Retardant Cotton Yarn?

2025-06-16

Full dull polyester flame retardant yarn is a synthetic fiber yarn that is inherently flame retardant through polymerization modification or finishing processes. Its core features are flame retardant groups embedded in polyester molecular chains, combined with a low gloss surface formed by full extinction treatment. The material combines the high tensile strength of chemical fibers with permanent flame retardancy, eliminating the need for surface coatings to achieve fire resistance.

Full Dull Polyester Flame Retardant Yarn

Flame retardant cotton yarn is a functional yarn made of natural cotton fiber impregnated with flame retardant. The flame retardant mechanism relies on the chemical flame retardant coating layer penetrating into the fiber to form a carbonization barrier to oxygen at high temperatures. The inherent moisture absorption and soft touch of cotton fibers are retained, but fiber strength is entirely dependent on the original cotton substrate.

Full dull polyester flame retardant yarn has higher wear resistance than flame retardant cotton yarn. Under repeated friction, stretching or bending conditions, the strong crystalline structure of polyester molecular chain can effectively resist mechanical damage, and the yarn morphology remains stable. The natural fiber structure of flame retardant cotton yarn is prone to fibrillation fracture under the same mechanical stress, and the penetration of flame retardant will accelerate the embrittlement process of fiber.

The structure of full dull polyester flame retardant yarn is permanently stable and its flame retardant properties are not degraded by washing, sunlight or chemical contact. The protective layer of flame retardant cotton yarn is gradually lost with the use process, especially after washing, sweat etching or ultraviolet irradiation, flame retardant molecules are precipitated from the inside of the fiber, and the functionality is gradually degraded.

Full-dull flame retardant polyester yarn has good mechanical life, flame retardant durability and environmental adaptability, and its inherent flame retardant mechanism and synthetic fiber physical properties form synergistic enhancement. The durability limitations of flame retardant cotton yarn stem from the inherent conflict between the nature of the natural fiber and the post-treatment process, but it still has irreplaceable value in terms of comfort and static control.
